Liberals Desert Creepy Biden After Sex Allegations Begin to Fly
Despite his age, former Vice President Joe Biden is still being considered a possibility for a 2020 presidential run. After all, even though he’s gaffe-prone, he’s still a popular link back to the halcyon days of the Obama administration for the Democrats, right? Who could oppose that?
Well, at least two writers in liberal publications, and likely more coming. According to the Washington Free Beacon, writers at the Huffington Post and The Daily Beast published pieces within hours of each other on Wednesday saying that Biden’s creepy behavior with women should disqualify him from consideration.
And that was before the Al Franken scandal broke and one day after California Democrat Rep. Jackie Speier claimed that $15 million in taxpayer money had been paid out to sexual harassment victims at the hands of congressmen.
According to Roll Call, Speier told the House Administration Committee she was aware of two current members of Congress — one Democrat, one Republican — who had committed sexual harassment. In Erin Gloria Ryan’s piece for The Daily Beast (“Dear Lord Would Joe Biden Be a Terrible Candidate for These Times”), Ryan noted that the “Uncle Joe” persona that had grown up around Obama’s second-in-command had a dark side to it.

“While Joe Biden has been jokingly depicted as a kooky uncle or Obama’s wacky sidekick or Leslie Knope’s grin-flashing celebrity crush, he’s also got a troubling history of acting weird in public around women who don’t seem entirely on board,” Ryan wrote.
“This isn’t just based on whispers or rumors; there are so many photos and clips of Biden looming over, or massaging, or gently nuzzling, or whispering to, or kissing women and girls who don’t seem all that into it. For awhile, a few years ago, it was a bit of a meme. Gawker wrote on it. So did The Washington Post. And there are plenty of YouTube ‘Creepy Joe Biden’ compilations, in case you want to spend the next hour or so feeling vicariously mortified.”
HuffPo’s piece, written by Washington Bureau Chief Amanda Terkel (“Joe Biden 2020 Is A Terrible Idea In A Post-Weinstein America”), focuses mostly on what Terkel sees as Biden’s refusal to give proper shrift to Anita Hill’s accusations against then-Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas during the infamous 1991 congressional hearings on the matter.
You know, like this:
However, his sexualized public behavior toward women also played a prominent role in why Terkel felt Biden would be an inappropriate candidate in the next presidential election.
“His behavior also had more patronizing undercurrents. A big part of his act was remarking on the attractiveness of women, young and old. He would comment on how pretty young women were and warn their fathers to keep the guys away,” Terkel wrote. “Many people found this behavior charming. He wasn’t stiff like some politicians. He grabbed people’s hands, put his arm around them and even kissed people on the cheek. But it’s clear some people were uncomfortable. The teenage daughter of Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), for example, visibly cringed and pulled away when Biden whispered in her ear and kissed her on the head.”
Of course, much like with William Jefferson Clinton, conservatives were a lot quicker to realize the problematic nature of Biden’s overtures toward women. Terkel quotes the Washington Examiner’s Byron York, who wrote a column called “Joe Biden’s women-touching habit” back in 2015.

“Do the incidents add up to anything?” York said. “Assume that all of Biden’s gestures were entirely innocent, just Joe being Joe.
“Still, in today’s society, sexual harassment complaints have been lodged for less. Biden’s behavior gives critics plenty of ammunition and puts supporters in a difficult position. Why is that kind of stuff OK when the vice president does it and cringe-making when it’s the overly-friendly guy in the office?”
And then there are the little tidbits you get that that Uncle Joe goes beyond being the “overly-friendly guy in the office.” In 2014, a book called “The First Family Detail,” about the lives of Secret Service agents who guard the residents of the White House and those around them, revealed that “(a)gents say that, whether at the vice president’s residence or at his home in Delaware, Biden has a habit of swimming in his pool nude.”
“Female Secret Service agents find that offensive,” author Ronald Kessler, according to U.S. News. There was also an unsubstantiated report earlier this week in The Gateway Pundit, allegedly quoting a former Secret Service agent who said Biden was guilty of “Weinstein level stuff.”
“We had to cancel the VP Christmas get together at the vice president’s house because Biden would grope all of our wives and girlfriend’s a**es,” the agent reportedly alleged.
It’s worth noting that report could not be corroborated by any media source, mainstream or otherwise. However, given the evidence already on video, one doesn’t necessarily find the accusations leveled in those pages outside the realm of possibility.
And yet, Biden seems to be one of the top contenders for 2020. A new poll shows him as beating Trump 46 percent to 35 percent if an election were held today, and in a June poll, he came out atop all other Democrat contenders for 2020. Biden has not been formally accused of sexual harassment or abuse by anyone — yet.
But in this environment, where politicians and prominent people alike seem to fall by the wayside every day, would Biden be the wisest choice, especially as sexual misconduct allegations fly on Capitol Hill?
His behavior seems to indicate the answer to that question is no — and if The Daily Beast and HuffPo are any indication, liberals are moving away with all deliberate speed. Please like and share on Facebook and Twitter with your thoughts on the possibility of a Joe Biden presidential run.
